Did you know that in Norse mythology, the Sun god had an sexually ambiguous sibling called Wel, and sometimes their name is confused on this particular day of the week? We call this day… WELD-DAY!

Seriously though, we do plan to do some welding on Sunday again.

Anyway, we had a good day in the workshop – Big Dave 3 is close to completion, although we can’t put a timescale on its finish date just yet. We also had a special visit from a disabled kid called Jamie who really wanted to see a heavyweight robot/robot team (his relatives are local to the workshop). We are always open to all sorts of things like tours of the workshop, participating in student builds etc., as you may be aware from our efforts with the Westminster Warrior.

On the featherweight front, Ali found more bits for his featherweight (which can no longer be named for reasons beyond human comprehension), Rob has got yet more ideas for more bots that may or may not come to fruition, but more importantly, Ali found an electric golf caddy worth a frankly silly amount of money (actually more than the featherweight that cannot be named for reasons beyond etc. etc.!) reasonably intact that has a working motor!! We’ve “redesigned” it to be usable as a fighting robot. It also has a backstory that will be the focus of another blog post. You may have seen the videos going around our social media feed – if you haven’t seen them then see below!

This creation, which we would like to have running for Manchester next weeekend, hasn’t actually got a name. In lieu of downloading the plugin for a poll on this website, we would like to see some audience participation the old fashioned way! Let us know in the comments (or social media) whether you would like to see it named:

  • Tiger Wood
  • 3 Iron
  • Par 1
  • Sir Clubalot
  • Ace of Clubs
  • Tiger’s Revenge

If you can think of a name for our incredible, ambitious featherweight, we would also love to hear from you!

See you at Manchester XR!!
